Three miles of booms will be set-up by the Coast Guard if needed to protect the St. Lucie Inlet on the Florida Treasure Coast if currents carry the massive Gulf of Mexico oil slick that way.

Anyone who sees oil or tar balls washing up on the beaches there  should report the location by calling the state hot line at 866-448-5816.

Now anxious travelers — at least to the Gulf Coast — have something else to check on besides whether their reservation went through.

The Associated Press is reporting that coastal resorts are getting lots of calls wondering about the impact of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
